Maury Regional Health‘s executive leadership team contracted with Gabrielle DeTora of DeTora Consulting to conduct a thorough evaluation of how each of its 16 specialties is performing in the U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Hospitals” list. DeTora Consulting will benchmark each specialty against the best in the country and prioritize ranking improvement efforts.
Maury Regional Health is a not-for-profit regional health system serving southern Middle Tennessee through its hospitals, clinics, surgery centers, outpatient facilities and physician practice group. A six-time IBM Watson Health 15 Top Health System, the organization is committed to providing innovative care by combining convenient and affordable access with skilled and compassionate patient care.
Despite this, Maury Regional Health is not appearing on the U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Hospitals” list. In support of Maury Regional Health’s goal of improving its ranking status on this prestigious list, DeTora Consulting will conduct a methodical research process and data evaluation to
- Prioritize service line initiatives to maximize chances for ranking success
- Determine critical success factors and tactical steps for improvement
- Uncover quality, documentation, and reputation shortcomings, if any
- Outline a timeline for improvement initiative management
- Set a national marketing plan for reputation ranking improvement, and
- Develop an information “dashboard” to track results.
While there are some immediate actions Maury Regional Health can take to begin improving their ranking positions, such as reputation building and improved documentation of patient safety issues, the effects of those actions take time to show up in the data used to determine “Best Hospital” rankings. Efforts can take two or more years to see ranking improvements significant enough to make the top 50 list.
However, the benefits of this work extend far beyond the U.S. News & World Report rankings. This work will provide a roadmap for patient safety and quality measures, processes for documentation accuracy, and building a national reputation for Maury Regional Health over time.
Based on past performance measures and hospital benchmarks, thresholds for success will be outlined along with forecasts on how the improvements could affect future rankings. DeTora Consulting will conduct a deep dive into all areas of the RTI International methodology to benchmark Maury Regional Health year-over-year for the current three-year rolling average.
DeTora Consulting will also review the Doximity physician dataset to retrieve and correlating/cross referenced report of the Maury Regional Health physician lists with the Doximity list of physicians.
In addition to a clinical, coding, patient satisfaction, and other operational recommendations, DeTora Consulting will provide a Reputation Enhancement Plan. This plan will focus on the Doximity channel exclusively utilizing communications and clinical promotions including PR on clinical trials, conferences, research articles, and clinical achievements to advance the current rankings, as well as High Performing placement for specialties.
